Tourism is one of our core economic drivers — and we're strengthening how we support it.
Christina Lake Tourism Society Integrated into Christina Gateway
Over the past year, the Christina Lake Tourism Society Board has been exploring options to ensure tourism support in Christina Lake remains sustainable and to increase it’s capacity to deliver tourism initiatives. This work has led to a significant shift in how tourism is supported: tourism work is now integrated into Christina Gateway’s Economic Development function.
This is an efficient and practical transfer. Governance, procedures, and compliance are already built into Gateway, which means less time spent on administration and more time focused on getting tourism work done—supporting operators, advancing priority projects, and responding quickly to opportunities.
Just as importantly, local input remains central.
Tourism will continue to be supported through Gateway’s new Tourism Advisory Committee, designed to focus on outcomes rather than governance. The committee will bring community and industry perspective to the table, help identify priorities, and support action-oriented work that benefits Christina Lake and the wider area.
We’re building on the strong foundation created by the Christina Lake Tourism Society and our tourism operators. With tourism now integrated into Christina Gateway, we can focus more energy on delivering tourism priorities-supported by Gateway’s built-in governance and an advisory committee that keeps local insight front and centre.
