Gateway’s Transportation Study Update
Over the summer and fall of 2024 we spoke with over 350 individuals through pop-up events, roundtables and business walks. These meetings provided a comprehensive understanding of our transportation gaps, and resulted in numerous recommendations presented in the On the Move Transportation Study.
Throughout 2025, we focused on 2 areas:
- providing the RDKB with the findings of the study to guide their work with BC Transit on the 2025 transit review for Christina Lake.
- ensuring existing transportation options were available through our business directory.
In the fall of 2025, the results of the BC Transit service review were complete, and assessed for our community. RDKB CAO James Chandler summarizes the results:
“After completing a service review with BC Transit, it was evident that the level of service BC Transit could provide would fall short of the needs of the community, and would do so at a cost that isn’t viable for Christina Lake”
Transportation in 2026
While the failure of a BC Transit-led solution is disappointing, it is not the end of the conversation around improving transportation at Christina Lake. For 2026, Gateway will focus on exploring private or shared community shuttle services through investment attraction and partnership development.
Transportation remains a priority for Gateway, and we will continue to identify practical, locally grounded solutions that improve how people move around Christina Lake.
